I must have been one of the first people to register a dot name, having pre-registered back in 2002. I knew it would be a better domain suffix for my site than the brash commercial .com or non-global .co.uk, as it conveys the same feelings of warmth and friendliness that I hope comes across on my shows on Classic FM. I'm very happy with it and am pleased to see more and more people are realising the potential of this excellent TLD. I'm just glad I got mine secured before anyone else snapped it up, as a quick Google search returns at least three people with my name who are also in the public eye who must be kicking themselves that they missed out!

I have chosen .NAME as it allows me to have a short personal web address, that is far easier to remember than the alternatives I would have had at .COM or .CO.UK. I am not a company so .NAME gives my website the personal feel that I am looking for.

I have lived in many different places, and I am doing a lot of different things, so settling with a .com, .org, .dk, .de, .se, would be only temporary and would have a location or association tied to it. My name is the only thing that I am sure will not change, no matter if I start being an artist in New Mexico, a plumber in Guteborg or a politician in Kuala Lumpur. My .NAME url and email stays with me, no need to change.

.NAME is the logical place for individuals on the net... we're not commercial, or organizations, or network providers, or governments, so the old top level domains don't fit... the .NAME domain says that your site and e-mail address are personal

I chose a .NAME address instead of .COM because .NAME seems like an address for my own use. And I think that only one luca.patrone in the world could have his ".name", and this one is me! When I give my address out, it is very, very easy to remember. In Italy, people usually confound .IT and .COM, however there is no confusion with .NAME! And I don't have the "regional feeling" of a .IT and the commercial feeling of .COM. I have a personal feeling with ".name"!

.NAME is a natural top level domain for personal pages. As an individual, I am not a company, a net, a school, or an organization. .NAME provides a URL that I can always update to point to my site, regardless of any changes in my affiliations, or choice of ISP. .NAME provides an easy to remember website URL. Those to whom I tell it do not have to write it down. I have had my own website since 1993. Having my own site makes it easy to distribute my papers, talks, recipes, opinions, and anything else I choose to publish!
